We sleep over the third of our lives

The most important characteristic of a healthy bedroom is that it exists. Ideally all flats would have a place for this function. Rest is much more effective if for example one would not go to sleep with a picture of piles of working papers on his or her desk which does not have a favorable effect in his or her mind reminding him or her a lots of work to be done. The constant distracting noises, burrs, sound of weapons, screams of death, etc. coming from TV sets are not the best to put one in restful, deep sleep. The presence of electric equipments should be minimized in the bedroom: less electric smog is way better for the one wants to have a great sleep. Instead of electric devices one should place soft textiles, relaxing pastel colors, natural materials and furniture giving a trustworthy and stable atmosphere which helps relaxation.

The bedroom should be the sanctum of sleeping and resting (not to mention other important functions for our bodies and souls) where one can be closeted if other members of the family  are still watching TV, reading, studying or working at electric light. A room like this with great ventilation, cozy feeling helps to regenerate, gives a secure feeling to its user and provides real, energy giving sleep. It should not be luxury but in reality the daytime and nighttime function places are not separated in the most of the flats.

Ironing board was recommended...

If not all is able to have a bedroom the important thing is that at least the bed would provide a good resting. Those who suffer from locomotor diseases and spinal disorders know very well its importance but the healthy ones should know as well that bad quality beds make them sick sooner or later. A really good bed can partially relief the already existing problems as well.

A good bed should meet numerous criteria. Naturally, the bed should be long enough so that one could fit stretched as well. (Beds can be seen in museums are surprisingly short – due to the acceleration occurred in the 20th century - at least a 20 cm longer beds are needed.) The bed should be and look stable: it would not provide a secure sleep if one must draw in and is not dare to turn around because does not feel safe. It is not a lucky situation when (even though many of us are forced to do it) the bed is a seat during the daytime and it takes a small rearrangement each day to turn it to a bed. (These close-up furniture are better used  as guest beds but not for permanent use since the most of them are uneven where they are folded.

The healthy bed should meet the requirements of basic aspects. The importance of not having the spine bent sideway was known long time ago. Therefore a flat and hard surface was recommended – in case of back pain it could be a door or an ironing board.

... but there is a more suitable bed

According to new researches if the spine is rigidly straight the pain might be eased but this is not the best solution. The spine must be in constant and fine movement because the parts between the vertebra has their own circulation of moisture. During a constant movement the passive pump function is working which regenerates and repairs the spinal discs. If the spine is rigid the state of the vertebra can worsen and pain might occur.

Not only the support of the spine is expected from a modern bed but also that the muscles can help constant movement (dynamic body position) making sure the blood support of the muscles and the circulation of moistures. If the supporting muscles around the spine can relax overnight the pain is decreasing.
The traditional bed is sagging - this way it is fixing the spine in a concave curve – the moisture is getting less and less among the vertebra therefore the spinal discs start getting thinner. If the mattress is supported in the middle it is shaping the spine in a convex curve. The effect is the same: pack pain.

The modern industry has found the solution: double lined mattresses with slates. The two lines are curved in opposite direction: the upper follows the shape of the body, the lower avoids sagging. Together they make sure that the spine could move in all directions. This way a much smaller pressure is on each point of the body, so the muscles around the spine are not  cramped, can relax, the blood circulation is optimal. The sleeper wakes up in the morning as he or she would have been through a twenty-minute exercise. The regeneration of the spine is helping the surrounding structures of tissues (e.g. skin, muscle, veins, periosteum) and the  other organs as well. If we can keep the spine in an optimal regenerating state we do a lot for the other organs and for our health as well.

Mattresses made of natural materials

Well, we have done the most part of it – after all, our bedroom can not be ruined by inappropriate bedclothes. The pillows and quilts can not be filled with feather since the tick and other parasites like to be there – they can cause allergies in case of sensitive people.

Instead of feather it is useful to fill the pillows with silicone balls which do not cause allergy and on the top of that they are not shrinking, not sticking, not clinging, the air can go though them and the sleeper does not sweat in them.
The most important raw material of the organic bedclothes is the wool. This is used for feather-beds and quilt substituting blankets and pillows. The wool provides an optimal temperature for the body. We tend to heat the regular quilt to body-temperature than we feel warm and remove it from our body – this way we can catch cold. The woolen blanket can pass the spare heat – it almost breaths. Patients laying in bed for a longer period can avoid bed-sore. Its touch is nice but it is more important that the lanoline had good effect for the skin.

The lanoline is grease (it is recommended in pharmacies as a hand cream) – this is the tallow of the sheep. It shoves the water therefore blankets made of it are not getting dirty. Nowadays it is made in a way that it keeps its shape and size, can be washed in machines and specially recommended for people suffering from allergies.
