One of the most common locomotor disease is back pain. We can not say that it would occur rather at older age because most of the patients are at school age. It can occur by not doing exercises, weak muscles, putting one-way loading on the muscles. In case of adults the reasons can be found at the workplaces.
According to researches 50% of the students have bad poise. The main reason for the back pain is that they do not exercise enough. The reason for bad poise is the usually heavy schoolbag – if it is carried only on one side of the body it might cause scoliosis. Fortunately today's fashionable backpacks are a lot healthier. The weight of the bag might cause problems since ideally it should not be heavier than 10% of the total weight of the child.
In case of bad poise or other locomotor diseases a specialist can order special exercises. Swimming is the most popular among children which is not only a curing method but also is preventive.
During sleeping, during working hours
In case you suffer from back pain you should look around home when you are seeking “back friendly” solutions. The most important thing is the bed. You spend 8 hours every single day with sleeping (at least in theory) therefore using an uncomfortable mattress for years causes chronic back pain. There is no universal recipe for an ideal mattress – some of us finds comfortable if the mattress is as hard as a board while others prefer soft beds for peaceful sleeping. One thing is bad for sure: if the mattress shapes like a plate, makes a pit. In this case there is not enough space for moving during sleeping therefore sooner or later back pain comes for sure.
The spine must have rest as well during the night sleep. The biggest burden is laying on the back, the best pose is the “embryo”. Let's lay on our side, bend our arms and the our joints of the hip and knees (in other words we should pull up our legs a little bit). This way the lower curve of the spine is getting equalized but the natural curves of the upper spine and the neck will remain in their natural position. This guarantees that we can avoid back pain.
During work the most common cause of back pain is sitting for a long period of time. The ideal chair's hight is adjustable, has an armrest, and can be turned around. The hight of the chair should be set on a level which is equal with the length of the leg of the user of the chair. The surface of sitting should be slanting forward in 15 degrees in a way that the front edge would push the thighs. The chair-back should follow the form of the back, in other words it is good if it ends below the scapula and supports the lower back.
For the sake of the protection of the back and spine the upper edge of the computer monitor should be placed at a high level. If there is a minimal difference it can provoke serious pain during long hours doing a monotonic work even though the work is not hard physically. It can cause a secondary inflammation which is caused by one-way loading of the muscles and their contraction.
Pain relief, treatment
Our first task is to find out the cause of the pain. The reasons can be the same series of movements, computer used in a wrong way, a badly constructed chair therefore we can end the causes of our complaint by making changes. Resting and relaxing are very important. We can solve the problem in few days or in few weeks.
In case of stronger pain the treatment can be amended by physical therapy and muscle relaxant creams. If the strength of the pain calls for it prescription medicine can be used against inflammation and as a muscle relaxant. Naturally, in case of back pain, pain killers can be used as a symptom relief but in case the pain would last longer a doctor should be seen. There are many excellent, non-prescription medicines available as well.
